Claude Design is live: why Anthropic is now challenging Figma and Canva
What just happened
Yesterday Anthropic quietly released a tool that's shaking up the design world: Claude Design. Powered by the brand-new Opus 4.7 model, which came out one day earlier.
The idea is simple and radical at the same time. You write a sentence in plain German. Claude delivers a finished draft: slides, landing page, one-pager, entire brand guidelines. Changes? Just say so in the chat.
I tested it for half a day, and yes, I think this changes something. But not in the way most people on Twitter are claiming right now.
How to find and use it
You need a paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise). Free users don't see the feature at the moment. It runs as a research preview.
Log in at claude.ai. In the left sidebar (if you don't see it, click the icon at the top) you'll find the new button at the very bottom: Design. One click and you're in.
There you'll see your recent designs and sample templates, and you can start new prototypes right away: slides, landing pages, one-pagers, wallpapers, brand guidelines. The interface looks a lot like Lovable or Bolt: chat on the left, preview on the right.
The 5 features that set it apart
→ Prompt to design: One sentence is enough. "Build me a wallpaper for a futuristic operating system", and you get 5 variants within a few minutes.
→ Multimodal input: Text, images, PowerPoints, screenshots, entire websites, even GitHub repos. You feed it, Claude understands.
→ Design systems as DNA: Upload your Figma file, your repo or an existing HTML file once. Claude learns colors, type and components. From then on, every output carries your brand's signature.
→ Sketch mode: There's a canvas where you can sketch by hand. The sketch becomes a working prototype.
→ Export to everything: PDF, PowerPoint, Canva, standalone HTML, straight to Claude Code. Claude Design is less a tool and more a control center between all the design platforms.
Setting up your own design system
The most exciting lever. In the dashboard, click "Design Systems", create a new system, give it a name.
Then comes the clever part: you can link a GitHub repo, upload Figma files, drag in HTML files or just add logos and fonts. I uploaded my existing skill dashboard HTML and said: "Replicate this style, similar typography and colors."
The system needs about 10-15 minutes to process. Then it goes through a review loop: iconography, logos, slideshow templates, CTAs. For each area you can say "looks good" or "needs work" and describe what should change. Round after round, until it fits.
The result for me: a clean design system that I then used to generate a complete slideshow and a landing page in the right style with a single prompt.
The uncomfortable truth: this isn't a Lovable killer
Before the hype train runs off with you: Claude Design doesn't replace Lovable, or Bolt, or Cursor. And it doesn't kill Figma either.
What it can do:

→ Static websites that look real
→ File handoff for your team
What it can't do:
→ Working web apps with a backend
→ Databases
→ Login flows and payments
→ Full dev environments
In short: Claude Design replaces the design phase. Not the engineering. Anyone who builds products stays with Lovable or Cursor. Anyone who needs presentations, decks, landing pages and visual assets now has a new tool to take very seriously.
What this means for personal brands
This is where the real leap happens. For everyone building a personal brand, coaches, consultants, creators, founders, design has been the bottleneck until now.
Idea → brief a designer → revisions → three weeks later a draft that almost fits. Or: Canva, but everything looks like all the other Canva templates.
Now the flow is:
→ Set up a clean design system once (with existing assets, website, guidelines)
→ Generate every further presentation, landing page and social visual by prompt
→ Everything carries your signature automatically, without you writing a new brief every time
That's the point where design stops being a bottleneck.
My verdict after the first day
This is a strong tool. Not perfect, it's a research preview. It can't do everything. There are areas where Figma and Lovable are still unmatched.
But for everyone who gives presentations regularly, needs landing pages, produces social content or wants to build a consistent visual identity: this will change your workflow.
The question is no longer "Do I need a designer?"
It's: How clear is my visual identity? Because Claude can only work as consistently as the system you give it.
My advice: Block out an afternoon. Collect your existing brand assets. Set up a clean design system. You'll benefit from it for weeks.
The design world shifted quietly yesterday. Whoever gets it early has the head start.
